What you can store in a container

What can and cannot go in a container?

Almost everything ordinary is fine in a container. Furniture, boxes, white goods, business stock, documents, tools, equipment, bikes, garden furniture and vehicles all go in without any fuss. This page sets out what is allowed, what is not, and the grey areas people usually ask about.

What you can store

Furniture, boxes, white goods, business stock, documents, tools, equipment, bikes, garden furniture, and vehicles such as cars, motorbikes and trailers. If you would keep it in a house, garage or office, it is fine in your container.

What is not allowed

Anything hazardous or flammable is not allowed: petrol, gas bottles, paint, thinners, fireworks or chemicals. It is a fire risk in a sealed steel box. Perishables are not allowed either, food and anything that will rot or attract pests.

The grey areas people ask about

No animals and no plants. No illegal items of any kind, including anything stolen or counterfeit. No waste for disposal rather than storage, and no firearms, ammunition or explosives. Nothing may be lived in or worked from, a container is for storage only.

Fuel and machinery

A lawnmower or a strimmer is fine if the fuel is drained first. A car is fine too, whether you are storing it for winter or it simply needs the space.

Fridges, freezers and paperwork

A fridge or freezer is fine if it is clean and dry inside. Paperwork and documents are fine as well. If you are not sure about something, ask us.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Getting your things in safely

Packing your container

If in doubt, call or email us before you load the van. We would rather answer the question than have you guess.

Keep everything dry

Everything must go in dry. A damp item in a sealed container can cause mould and spoil everything around it.

Keep items off the floor where you can. A few pallets or offcuts of wood under boxes and furniture make a real difference.

Cover furniture with breathable sheets rather than plastic, so damp air can escape rather than being trapped against the surface.

Insurance for your things

Your container is not automatically covered by anyone else's insurance. Ask us about your own contents insurance rather than assuming there is cover, we can point you in the right direction.

Your container, your key

You get your own container, your own padlock and the only key. Nobody else has access, and nothing of yours shares space with anyone else's belongings.

All of this comes for one flat price, £100 a month, whatever you choose to store inside.

If anything here is not clear, or you are not sure whether something is allowed, ask us. We are happy to talk it through before you book.

That is the whole policy. Ordinary household and business items are welcome. Hazardous, perishable, illegal and living items are not, and a container is for storage only.
